What is Tiktok?

The central element of the app are short videos shot on the mobile phone, which the user can add to the music. The idea: a maximum of 15 seconds in length. “Make every second count” is Tiktok’s slogan. Every movement, every punch line must sit, because there is no time for explanations.
TikTok is a Chinese video platform founded in late September 2016. Users can record short, self-made videos, which can then be accompanied by music from well-known songs or film scenes. Users use these videos to create creative and fun videos, often dancing or moving their lips in sync with the songs / scenes. The videos are usually limited to a length of 10 seconds. However, TikTok is more than just a video platform: the fact that users can share their videos with other people is also a social network. TikTok, or DouYin, as it is called in China, is similar to the social media platform Instagram.
